What they are, what they do and why they got your vote.

The Memos recognise the absolute in parenting essentials, the best baby brands in the biz, the products worthy of your time, adoration and money. This year, we have eight categories ranging from bath time BFFs to the most innovative baby gear in the game. Our expert panel of judges: The Sleep Expert Dr Golly, The Holistic Birthing Expert Yahna Fookes, The Community Advocate Maggie Chretien, The Nutritionist Jacqueline Alwill, The Midwife and Lactation Consultant Tanya Maschio and The Editorial Director Alexandra Whiting, finalised the nominees, and then our community flocked in the thousands to vote. We’re sure they considered it their civic duty to let parents everywhere know the products that made their experience of parenthood that little bit easier. Therefore, the winners are a pretty exciting list!

Here, we’re getting up-close and personal with the winners to find out exactly why they took the top spot.

And the winners are...

Engorgement, cracked nipples, clogged ducts, under supply, oversupply… sore boobs happen. The nominees for this category are the tools you turn to above all others to give comfort and relief to your breasts post birth. And the soother that took the top spot got the nod from four of our judges. These silver nipple covers are the top choice for the breast care of breastfeeding mums. Used to prevent and heal sore cracked nipples and the surrounding skin, these little cups are made from pure 925 sterling silver which is a natural antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial metal that also contains anti-inflammatory agents.

What our judges say:

“The silver in the Silverettes of course offers wonderful healing properties, but what I find the mums particularly love is the small discrete style cup, which offers protection for the nipples between feeds, stopping irritation from breast pads or bras touching the nipples.” — Tanya Maschio, Midwife and Lactation Consultant.

Silverette 101:

  • Made from pure 925 sterling silver
  • 100% nickel free
  • Antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial
  • Protect and repair nipples and surrounding skin that is sore, cracked and sensitive from breastfeeding

All the gain can come with a lot of pain. As your body recovers from the intensity of childbirth, the nominated soothing saviours get all the credit for giving expert care down there. The perineum strip from Body Ice has given relief to many. Use the strip cold on the sensitive perineal area postpartum for soothing relief. It doesn’t sweat or melt like traditional ice-packs and is shaped to fit into your underpants so you can move around while you wear it.

What our judges say:

"I swear by these cooling strips and used them in my own journey for the first 4 weeks postpartum. Easy to insert in your undies, re-freezable and hygienic, these are must for your fourth trimester.” — Yahna Fookes, The Holistic Birthing Expert.

Perineum Strip 101:

  • Use hot or cold
  • help reduce the occurrence of perineal trauma
  • Use to treat Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) & haemorrhoids
  • Includes x1 perineum strip and x5 washable perineum sleeves

Having a baby can be kind of confusing, and there’s a ton of products that you won’t know you need… until you do. The niche problem solvers nominated in this category require a bit of explaining to new parents (like seriously, what the f, why the f, how the f) but make a huge difference when you need them most. None more so than the Snotty Boss Nasal Aspirator. Babies can't actually blow their noses which is annoying as it sounds for them. Thanks to this incredible device, it uses a battery powered suction to gently remove snot for them. Bub will breathe, feed and sleep better in less than 10 seconds. Genius.

What our judges say:

"Babies get snotty, but can't blow their noses. This gets all the junk out of there so they can breathe easy. There are alternatives on the market that involve you doing the sucking, so praise the heavens that this exists." — The Editorial Director Alexandra Whiting.

Features of Nasal Aspirator Kit:

Battery powered suction Removes snot from your baby’s nose gently and safely in ten seconds Helps babies breathe, feed and sleep better Use to relieve colds, flu, sinus, allergies, teething and virus related congestion and runny nose Ideal for newborns to preschoolers

Sleep can be elusive and when it comes, can make all the difference to the life of a new family. The superheroes nominees were the best in class for bringing comfort to the nursery and the gift of good sleep to those in the know and the winner was a classic pacifier with a twist — you can see it in the dark. This means both you, and potentially your baby, can find the dummy when they wake up at night and want extra comfort to fall back asleep (potentially helping them self-settle). The teat is made of 100% natural rubber latex, which is soft, flexible and natural for the little ones and is the lollipop shape that specialists prefer.

What our judges say:

*“As a lactation consultant, I prefer the shape of these dummies for breastfed babies particularly. The glow in the dark idea sure does make it easier for the parents, in those dark nights resettling their baby.” — Tanya Maschio, Midwife and Lactation Consultant. *

Night Glow Dummy 101:

  • Made from 100% natural rubber latex
  • Imitates real breast
  • Glows in dark
  • BPA, PVC, and phthalates free

Bath time is bonding time, and when armed with the right essentials, sets a calming routine for families. The nominees in this category were the considerate bathing and grooming go-tos are most adored, relied upon and enjoyed, daily. The winner? The duck! When practicality meets cuteness overload, it gives you the rubber thermometer ducky from Dreambaby. Use it to quickly and accurately monitor the temperature of your baby’s bath or bedroom. The cute duck design floats in water and the small screen displays an accurate temperature reading.

What our judges say:

"You know how you always have your phone nearby, because you use it so much? At our house, the duck is like a phone. Every night he'd sit in the bath and tell us exactly when the baby could go into the bath water. It sounds simple, but how else are you meant to know what 37 degrees feels like?" — Alexandra Whiting, The Editorial Director.

Bath Thermometer Duck 101:

  • Built in 30 minute automatic shut off
  • Temperature recording on small screen
  • BPA-free

Formula, breastmilk or a bit of both, feeding a baby comes with a ton of equipment to make the process seamless, efficient and hygienic, and the nominees for Master in Milk get top marks. But the winner? The Haakaa breast pump. Perfect for breastfeeding mums who also want to feed breastmilk from the bottle. It’s a reliable and economic choice that can save you time and effort in pumping, because it works while you feed. When you sit to feed, place it on the other boob (connecting by suction) and it will lightly drain and collect your milk via suction. It's portable so you can take it with you and has no cords or noise, and can allow you to fill a few bottles or store some milk in the fridge without any extra time solely pumping..

What our judges say:

“Silicone pumps are so good for full/ engorged/ leaking breasts. Unlike other similar pumps, the Haakaa has great suction! Nothing worse than collecting milk, and then losing suction which ends up in spilt milk!” — Tanya Maschio,The Midwife and Lactation Consultant.

Haakaa Gen 2 Breast Pump 101:

  • Portable
  • Economic choice
  • Durable
  • Easy to use
  • Manual pump

The iconic and innovative nominees of this category totally transformed the way we thought we had to do baby and parenting, making life all the better for it. It’s made from premium felt fabric and boasting a sturdy base, the Bunnie Caddie has nine functional pockets and four removable dividers that can be used to support and organise all your changing essentials, think nappies, wipes, creams, muslin cloths and some things to keep your baby distracted and entertained during changing time. It can also be used in so many other ways.

What our judges say:

“I have two. One downstairs where we do most of my daughter's changes and one in the car that we take everywhere. I love them, it makes changes so much easier, especially if someone else wants to help you out and do a change for you (they can see everything so don't have to ask you where anything is!). It's also FANTASTIC for the hospital so you don’t have to go searching for everything you packed.” — Maggie Chretien, The Community Advocate.
