WHY IT'S GREAT

So, you know how labour is going to hurt? One way to help manage that is with a TENS Machine, a short and effective method of pain relief involving the use of a mild electrical current, which you can use during contractions. TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and provides a drug-free kind of pain relief. It sends small, safe pulses of electrical current via leads to electrode pads  on your skin which are held in place by a firm gel. The pulses pass through your skin and into your muscles and tissues, preventing pain signals reaching the brain. This gives you a gentle tingling or buzzing sensation, and offers a distraction from contractions, while helping you feel a bit more in control of your pain.

The Elle TENS Plus operates in 3 different modes. As a labour TENS, providing safe, natural pain relief during labour. As a general TENS offering pain relief for many chronic and acute pain conditions such as back pain, shoulder pain, arthritis, sports injuries, period pain and more. Lastly as a Pelvic Floor Stimulator to help strengthen pelvic floor muscles and treat incontinence.

This best-in-class device is portable, easy-to-use, and highly versatile. All settings are pre-set,  allowing mums to feel comfortable and in control, especially during the early stages of labour. It also has an inbuilt contraction timer (helpful) and the intensity of pulses can be increased or lowered based on the pain being experienced. It won’t take the pain away, but it should definitely help give some relief during labour.

1 in 5 women use a TENS device during labour. You can use TENS from the very beginning of your labour. You could start using it when you’re getting regular contractions or backache. TENS is most likely to be effective in early labour though you may still need other forms of pain relief as your labour gets stronger.
