Your Baby Beach Bag Checklist

Your Baby Beach Bag Checklist

By Alexandra Whiting   |

Never be caught without your fun-in-the-sun essentials again.

There is an episode of Bluey that highlights the importance of packing properly for fun in the sun. If you don’t already know, you soon will, probably by heart. In it, the dad dog takes the kids to the pool, but without any of their pool stuff, because that stuff is “boring”. Well, they inevitably get to the pool and parenting gets hard because the kids don’t have their pool toys, towel or sunscreen. Rookie error. In the end, Mum arrives with the swim bag to save the day. The moral of the story? Pack a beach bag, and pack it well. To help you do it, we’ve made a list.

What to pack in your baby beach bag

Our top tips for beach trips

  • Do a good layer of sunscreen on your kiddos before you get into the car and to the beach. Once they get there, things can get very exciting and it can be hard to get them to stay still for long enough to get them creamed up. Plus, sand.
  • Sunscreen isn’t recommended for babies under six month, so for them, it’s all about the shade. Long swimsuits, hats, clothing and a big umbrella or shade hut for them to hang out under.
  • Once you get set up on the sand, you want to make the most of it, so pack snacks, water and anything else your kiddo might want from the shop.
  • Gone are the days of rocking up to the beach with just your towel. Kids and babies need a lot of stuff. Make sure you can carry all your beach gear, use your pram or a trolley to help you out, and if you need, take a bike lock to keep it safe on the boardwalk while you swim.
  • Put the swim nappy on once you get to the beach or pool, not for the ride there.
