WHY YOU NEED IT

Haakaa Nipple Shields are a really great solution great if you’re breastfeeding and experiencing sore, inverted or cracked nipples or having problems getting your baby to latch on. Typically nipple shields are not needed long term, but can provide relief in the early period of breastfeeding. Haakaa Nipple Sheilds suction onto your breast, giving you a hands free breastfeeding experience. BPA, PVC and phthalate-free, the smart design allows babies to mimic a natural sucking rhythm, making it easier for babies that have difficulty latching, and comes with an anti-slip ridged outer edge so it will stay put while breastfeeding.

There are three kinds of Haakaa Nipple Shields to choose from.
Breastfeeding Nipple Shield, Round. The teat is an extended baby bottle teat with a physical space to protect your bnipple.. The suction in this shield is favoured by most mums and has the highest level of silicone thickness. This is the best option if your baby is mixed feeding or transitioning to bottle feeding
Breastfeeding Nipple Shield, Orthodontic. The teat is a natural thumb shaped teat with physical space to protect your nipple. Best for babies who have only been breastfed.
Breastfeeding Nipple Shield, Triangle. The teat has a natural shape to help prevent confusion to babies, and comes with a smaller base for increased breathability. It is also thumb shaped and is best for babies who have only been breastfed.

EDITORS' NOTES

Your lactation consultant or breastfeeding specialist will be able to advise you whether or not nipple shields are appropriate for you, and can also support you with your ongoing breastfeeding needs.  Often the hospital where you gave birth have lactation specialists and services to help you, or if you are at home try making an appointment with your Maternal and Childcare Nurse through your council, or of course there is the free counselling service from the Australian Breastfeeding Association.
The old wives tale of putting some breast milk on sore and crack nipples can work wonders, or invest in Silverettes for instant pain relief, working as a saviour to relieve damaged nipples.
