The Motherhood

WHY YOU NEED IT

Because no matter how hard the day or how overwhelming motherhood can feel, it's important to know you're not alone. The Motherhood is a collection of letters from some of Australia’s favourite women including Zoe Foster Blake, Clare Bowditch, Clementine Ford and Monty Diamond, sharing what they wish they’d known about life with a newborn. No two stories are alike – but all are generous, compassionate and deeply honest. The book was inspired by Jamila's own experience as a new mother and makes a powerful gift for any new mother. The stories told by these beautiful writers from diverse backgrounds can work as a salve, building the bonds of shared experience and helping to develop a deep sense of connection and community.

EDITORS' NOTES

We are obsessed with everything Jamila Rizvi does. The former editor-in-chief of MamaMia and author of Not Just Lucky (that inspires all the confidence in navigating work and beyond), Jamila practises what she preaches in her irrepressible warm, personal, but no-bs tone. She's brought together some of the greatest female writers in Australia in this beautiful collection of essays to help new mums laugh and cry, but most importantly, feel connected and not alone.

HILARIOUS and honest

The only (non-parenting) parenting book you need for those first 6 weeks. Honest, hilarious, raw and real accounts from some of Australia's smartest and savviest women about their time becoming mothers. Honest-to-goodness advice about asking for help, dealing with the emotional wrecking ball of a newborn and treating mastitis. Such a wonderful gift for any soon-to-be mum.

Amazing Insight

I read this book as an expectant mother that hasn't been through life with a newborn as yet. It was amazing to gain the insight into so many strong, Australian women's experiences which were so different from each other. I haven't heard as much advice relating to the first few weeks of having a newborn as much as I have preparing for labor so I think this book is really valuable.

Interesting, honest book

A great read to see how different people experience motherhood, the good and the bad. It's the first thing I passed on to a pregnant friend.
