Whether you want kids soon, in the future, or are still deciding, this kit was created to help you be proactive about your fertility and better understand what’s going on inside your body. It allows you to gain valuable information about your egg count (or “ovarian reserve”) by measuring your AMH (the gold standard hormone used for this) and providing you with reports built by fertility specialists so you can make more informed choices about your fertility. The test is fully compliant with Australian Regulatory Bodies and tests are processed at the WHEN Fertility laboratory partner in Melbourne which carries internationally recognised NATA accreditation.

Who is it for?
Anyone with at least one ovary can test, but there are some factors that can skew results therefore you cannot test:
If you are pregnant or have been in the last 6 months.
If you are breastfeeding or have been in the last 3 months.
If you are under 25. AMH is only considered a reliable measure of egg count from the age of 25 years and older.
If you are over 40. Other considerations like egg quality are very important and need to be discussed with your medical practitioner. We don't include a tele-education appointment for anyone 40+.
If you are taking biotin supplements. You need to stop taking any supplements with biotin for 3 days before you can test your AMH. Biotin, or Vitamin B7, is often found in multivitamins as well as hair and nail supplements. Any supplement which contains more than 5mg/day of biotin is considered a high dose and can cause falsely low AMH results.
NOTE: If you are on hormonal contraception you can test, just be aware that it can temporarily lower AMH levels. If you receive a low result that could have been affected by contraception, WHEN Fertility’s nurses will talk you through it.
Why test your AMH?
Fertility is a complex picture with many important things to consider and no single factor can predict your ability to conceive, but the more we know, the more we can start to understand. An egg count is often one of the first things a fertility specialist will want to understand when assessing your fertility because having an egg available to be released and fertilised is one of the keys to being able to conceive.
You will understand your egg count and if you have more or less than the number of eggs that are expected for your age.
You will understand if you have a shorter reproductive window and are at risk of running out of eggs earlier.
You will understand if a doctor might retrieve more or fewer eggs than what would be expected for someone of your age in any cycle of egg freezing or IVF.
Important information. This test indicates egg count. It does not test egg quality. Indicated egg count does not predict your chance of becoming pregnant, whether now or in the future. This test does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or medical condition. Test results, including any comments with your test report or in a consultation with a WHEN fertility nurse, are not a substitute for independent medical advice. You should speak with a medical professional if you wish to assess your fertility and before making any decisions about healthcare, including contraception. For details on the science and use of information about egg count, please visit whenfertility.com.au/science Intended Use. How does the test work?
The fingerprick blood samples are used to test the amount of AMH (Anti-Mullerian hormone) present. Your eggs grow inside of follicles in your ovaries and each follicle produces a hormone called Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH). When we want to estimate egg count, it's impossible to actually count the number of eggs because they are too small. So instead, the amount of AMH in the blood is measured and we use this to estimate the number of follicles – and therefore the number of eggs you have.
Over the last 20 years, AMH has become the international gold standard blood test to assess egg count. There is a substantial body of medical literature that supports our understanding and it's used in fertility clinics and doctors practices around the world.
