Whether you've had your baby names planned since you were a kid, or you're due any minute now but still don't have a favourite, it is always good to be aware of the most popular names. Each year McCrindle collates the baby name data from Australia's states and territories and analyses these names to uncover national trends that go on to shape the generation.

Even if knowing the most popular names doesn't influence your own baby name picks, you'll get an idea of who they'll be starting kindergarten with. You'll know if "Luca" is more likely to be a boy or a girl, if "Harry" is more likely to be known in the classroom as "Harry S." so as not to be confused with "Harry B." It is just as important to know that, unlike in many other countries, the list of baby names used in Australia is vast and wide. Of the approximately 292,318 babies born in Australia in a year, only 1,805 were given the most popular name, "Oliver", and only 1,601 were given the next most popular, "Noah". Girls names are even more diverse, with the most popular, "Charlotte", used for just 1,330 babies. Ahead, the most popular baby names in Australia in 2025, and what to know about them.
