How to Soothe a Teething Baby

Teething, like all things to do with babies, is so individual. Your first baby’s first tooth will most likely push through the gum line when they’re between 6 and 10 months, but it can come as early as 3 months… or as late as a year.

Most babies will show multiple signs of discomfort, while others may experience no symptoms (lucky for some!)

Cutting new chompers may coincide with some of the following symptoms: bad moods, poor sleep, fussy eating, unusual dirty nappies, excess drool, a clear and running nose, red cheeks, red bum, or a high temperature (never ideal).

Here are some tips to help you get through the season:

Using a clean finger, massage their gums in small circular motions. You can always offer your knuckle to suck on. Just make sure your hands are freshly washed.

Chewable toys can bring comfort. Kids love popping stuff in their mouths around this age. Just make sure it’s large enough and can’t be swallowed, and soft enough to chew. Anything silicone-based can provide relief.

A cold wet cloth is also great for babies to suck and chew on. Pop some in the fridge for reserve.

Teething rusks are also great for babies who have already started solids.

Take it easy, and give relief where you can.
